| | Texture and Visual Aspect of a device.

This experimentation was to evaluate how texture and visual aspect of a device can change the way we feel when we use it.
Our favorite is the stone age style: computers exists with the help of many, many generations of inventors. We feel all the knowledge of our ancestors when we use the computer or the pocket PC shown below.
1999 Compaq Presario
This laptop was used to compile the very first MioEngine in Ocotillo (Southeast California).
Today, it is the older active computer in our lab.
1998 HP Jordana
This pocket PC was used to run prototypes of our first finger driven applications.
The stone age look and feed was an help to find new ways of using this kind of device.
A Ruler, a Flashlight and an image viewer was the first applications. The memory card was loaded with photos of cave painting to test the picture browser.
When this device is in your hand, you have the feeling you have a stone in your hand (texture and weight). Using the finger to interact with the applications is much more natural than with a pen.
Since this time we have the feeling the pen will disappear when touch screen technologies will be more mature.
Floppy Disk and Flash Memory
Is a stone as a memory looks more trust-able than a small piece of plastic? Maybe not.
The flash memory card was working perfectly after the painting. Because of the moving parts, the floppy disk did not survive to the painting.
